A Rebuttal To Disparagers of Steel Buildings that are Pre-Engineered

There are several criticisms of all-steel building assembly which will be addressed in this article. Some critics are from the conventional or traditional building sector, although there are also some individuals who question certain aspects of pre-engineered buildings.

Some people claim that local codes for a steel building will not be met if the fabricating facility is not located in the area the building is to be erected; also that it will not sufficiently pre-engineer the building. Basically, this means that people believe a manufacturer will not engineer to the specific needs of a location if it is far from the actual place of fabrication. An incompetent pre-fabricated, pre-engineered steel building producer will not be in business for long. To remain in business in today’s world, most pre-engineered steel structure producers will employ proficient architects or engineers who understand that specific areas of the United States of America may be problematic for the proper design for any steel structure. Particular communities may suffer pronounced wind and/or snow loads which will affect pre-engineered steel structure erection. Miscalculated snow and wind loading is an unnecessary mistake. Thorough communications should be made between manufacturer and consumer to prevent such design mistakes occurring. Regardless of the intrinsic climate conditions that are present in an area, any quality pre-engineered steel structure fabricator can put together a finished structure that will be able to tolerate most any situation. It is the building purchaser’s responsibility, not the building manufacturer’s, to ensure the building meets their local building codes.

Another argument against pre-fabricated, pre-engineered steel buildings is their alleged inability to conform to extra building loading requests once the structure is complete. Steel structure customers should be clear on the intended use of the steel structure and take into account any modifications that may be made in the future. This argument is made if a building has existed for some time and then a crane needs to be attached to the internal ceiling of the building or extra weighty HVAC roof units are required on the roof. Added structure loading can take place at any stage of a pre-engineered steel building’s life cycle but it will require funding. This problem can be remedied by applying careful foresight to the use and any possible future uses of the building before the structure is engineered.

Finally, some critics insist huge quality differences exist from manufacturer to manufacturer. It is true that no two companies are the same. Fortunately, the life of a company that uses faulty components and questionable techniques will be short lived. Only a few manufacturers do not recognize professional caliber manufacturing standards and or fall behind with technological advances. By contrasting the standard services of any given firm to another, prudent buyers may quickly select an excellent steel building fabricator. Before making any specific building purchase, buyers should independently decide on the building quality level, expense, and project efficiency that they want from a steel structure manufacturer.
