Information About the Practical Advantages From Pre-Fabricated, Pre-Engineered Steel Structures

Long ago, the words “steel building” conjured up images of unattractive huts and cheap structures. There have been numerous developments and improvements over the past four decades leading to pre-fabricated, pre-engineered steel buildings as one of today’s top choices for larger and more complex applications. Farming and ranching applications, supermarkets, computer stores, and many more buildings are now constructed with premium grade steel.

The 20th century saw the initial utilization of these structures. One of the first configurations engineered was the automobile garage. Soon after, steel was used for shops and storage structures.

The 1920s in America saw the advent of buildings for farms and many other agricultural applications. Farmers and ranchers on the agricultural plains deserted wood in favor of steel as a building material.

During the 1940s the first line of pre-fabricated steel structures using a rigid framework scheme came into use. Rigid steel frameworks were found to be a strong and durable construction style and this system is still in use today as the prevalent type of construction for many applications. Business firms could now obtain bigger and more operational structure systems at a smaller cost than other building materials plus benefit from quicker erection time. After the 1940s, steel airplane hangars started to replace airplane hangars that employed alternative materials.

After the 1940s, design versatility and increased size improvements materialized for pre-fabricated all-steel buildings. The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) was established in 1956. The Metal Building Manufacturers Association standardized steel building manufacturing, and initiated an effort towards new approaches and greater attraction to a larger customer base. The steel structure industry is growing markedly, with a million dollars in new construction closing the 1950s to more than 2.5 billion dollars in building construction by the end of the 20th century.

Commercial quality steel continues to grow in approval today. The dawn of the 21st century saw steel prices climb due to several reasons. Despite this, steel remains inexpensive when compared to other building options and as a result, many individuals, companies, and institutions are selecting commercial grade steel.
